What is Flomax?
Flomax is a product for the symptomatic treatment of the benign prostatic hyperplasia. It does not have an antitumor action. A mechanism of the action of Flomax consists in the recovery of a normal outflow of urine and a reduction of other symptoms of the benign prostatic hyperplasia.
A therapeutic effect occurs in 10-14 days after the beginning of the treatment. A smooth muscle tonus of the neck of the urinary bladder and prostatic part of the urinary tract is gradually reduced, so that the outflow of urine goes easier and does not cause a discomfort for a man.
It provides a maximally selective action on alpha1a-adrenoceptors of the urinary tract, and therefore it does not affect the functions of the cardiovascular system and other organs. It is well tolerated, seldom causes side effects, may be used with other drugs for the treatment of the benign prostatic hyperplasia.
Who should take Flomax?
Flomax is prescribed men who have a disorder of urination as a result of the intensive development of the benign prostatic hyperplasia. If a man has difficult urination, has to tense an abdominal wall during urination, or has urinary incontinence, or frequent night wake-ups to urinate, he should have a medical examination of an urologist and use Flomax to restore a normal function of the urinary system.
How to take Flomax?
Flomax is produced in capsules for the oral use. Every capsule contains 0,4 mg of the active ingredient Tamsulosin hydrochloride, an optimal daily dose required to maintain a natural urinary function.
Flomax 0.4 mg capsules should be used in the morning, after breakfast. Take It with some water. Not more than 1 capsule is allowed within a day. The higher doses will not improve the body reaction and will not cause more intensive therapeutic effect.
A dose may be adjusted during the use of Flomax with hormone or antitumor drugs used for the therapy of the benign prostatic hyperplasia.
The treatment is continued until the complete disappearance of the disorder symptoms.
What are side effects?
Almost all alpha1a-adrenoceptors may influence on the blood pressure. Flomax does not severely affect it but if a patient has a disposition, the blood pressure may go down during the treatment. Therefore, in case of the first signs of hypotension (nausea, dizziness, fatigue), a patient should sit down or lie down, take the blood pressure and increase it, if needed.
In rare cases, headache, low libido, sleep disorder, or tachycardia are possible.
- Before using the drug, a patient has to be examined in order to eliminate other diseases that may cause the same symptoms as the benign prostatic hyperplasia
- Patients with dysfunction of kidneys do not adjust a dose of Flomax.
